Politics: Its all about opinion
60
Too often are political opinions kept hidden from those we love, and too often politics are played where they should not be. I am not a member of any party, and I do not attend rallies for anyone. However, I do carry a very strong political opinion. While this is not meant to offend anyone it probably will, and I do not apologize for what I say, so just sit back and enjoy the ride on this small town fella's political opinion page.
Presidents
There have been may presidents throughout time that have seemed very intelligent. History has proven that some were better than others. In my opinion the office of the president has become a popularity contest, and may the best blow hard win. Whereas my opinion may be very limited I would like to give a few examples.
BARACK OBAMA
Of course he is an easy target because he is our current president. Everyone can remember candidate Obama swearing that he could make the world a better place. Health Care would be had by all, that horrible war would end, and all our economic problems would fade into the sunset, if you were to elect him. Well if you haven't figured it out yet, and you may have not, that was a load of crap. But as a whole it sounded good to the American people.
So where has this popular man gotten us?
Well he has kept his promise to pull troops out of Iraq, but don't tell the American soldiers that he sent to Afghanistan that the war is over, they may not believe you. He recently got congress to pass health care, but the budget just expanded a trillion dollars. And just in case you haven't noticed, unemployment is still hovering around 10%.
George W. Bush
While he is an easy target for most media outlets, George W. Bush comes to me as one of the least popular presidents to be elected to a second term. He promised one thing running for his second term and that was to protect his country at all costs. While this may have been popular to some, others would have loved to see John Kerry win.
Where did this unpopular president get us
He got us into two different wars costing countless American lives, and countless dollars. He watched a budget surplus (fake as it may be) dwindle to an ungodly deficit. He was around to watch a booming economy crash like our grandparents remember.
Here is where I tell you that I have not been a fan of any president in my lifetime. I think they have all been blow hards when it comes to sticking up for the American people. Whether it be taking from the rich and giving to the poor (redistribution of wealth(Obama)), or leading us into a war on false pretenses(Bush), neither man, popular or not, has been a good president.
Congress
Both the House and the Senate have been the laughing stalk of America for years. The he said, she said politics has gotten old. Somehow people in polls hate congress as a whole, but love their individual congressman. The reason this write holds such bitterness towards congress is because most congressman can be elected without ever entering a small town such as mine. The only reason a congressman would come here is if something horrific happened and he wanted to get face time on TV looking as though he cared. My congressman stays in the big city, because that is where the votes are.
Big city congress may suit big city people just fine, but where I am from you should have to work for your money. Somehow our current congress thinks that by allowing people to extend their unemployment benefits for over one year it will help people find jobs. Do I have to tell you that it isn't working?. I am an acquaintance with a man that has been unemployed for just over 10 months now. He was a heavy equipment operator, and when the earth no longer needed to be moved in big quantities he was let go. He has had several job offers during his escapades on unemployment, but none of them pay as well as being unemployed. Maybe congress should look into making people go back to work, instead of letting them stay home longer.
Congress is too worried about being politically correct to do its job. If an apple is an apple, you can not call it an orange, unless your a congressman. Congressman have been taught to spin every comment into a political gain. Recently the people of Arizona passed a law to enforce the federal immigration laws using local law enforcement. But if you listened to congress you would think that Arizona just passed a law saying that everyone could be asked for their papers while out getting ice cream. I find it almost comedic that the congress of the United States of America doesn't take the time to understand a bill before they politically grandstand for or against it.
The Media
The fair and balanced media no longer exists. Our watchdogs have turned into cheerleaders for many causes. While this is the topic I feel needs addressed the most, I am going to leave it at just two opinions.
Opinion shows are not to be quoted as news Mrs. Palosi. But I would like to know, how it is that you believe in abortion, but not the death penalty?
Glenn Beck, stop trying to scare people into everything, your a smart man use your knowledge in a productive way.
The End
Smaller government is the answer to a lot of our problems today. We can no longer be the society that protects everyone from everything. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, does not mean, Groceries, a house, and guaranteed happiness. This country was founded on great beliefs, and we must get back to those beliefs. Its time for people to get past their fears and get on with their lives. I urge you never to elect the politician that says you will get something for free, because somewhere, somehow, somebody is paying for your handout. Wise up America, nothing is free, and as our government grows our freedom too becomes endangered.
My Current Political Opinion
- Representation Without Taxation
I know that seems backwards to some, but today we are talking about illegals aliens working in america that aren't paying taxes. I will be honest in the fact that I am on the fence about illegal immigration. In a sense we are all illegal immigrants or born of illegal immigrants. But what I get ticked about is the fact that some immigrants don't pay a dime in taxes. So the question I want you to think about today is why is our government, that is paid by our tax dollars, defending those immigrants that refruse to pay taxes. To me it is taking the taxation without representation from before the American Revolution, and turning it into representation without taxation.
- Ride the Wave: Term limits for congress
I don't ride most political waves, and although a fair chunk of my beliefs follow along the path of a conservative, I am an independent voter. One wave that has come up recently is a wave I am glad to say I will ride all the way to shore. I new poll is out showing that the majority of American Voters, both Democrat and Republican, support term limits for congress. I would hope this wave grows to the point where congress has no choice, but to limit itself.
- Election time:candidate beware
Election time, and what do we know about our candidate? Well if we follow just what we see on TV and read in the paper, we know that they raised millions, and spent millions attacking their opponent. We also know that they want to make sure they bring jobs home. No matter what state you are from you have probably heard that your candidate did/didn't vote for health care, and did/didn't vote for unemployment benefits. I not asking you to pick a side on either issue, but I would ask you to find out if your candidate picked the side they wanted or the side you, the voter, wanted. This has been brought to you in part by FIRE PELOSI, because congress has been democratically controlled since BEFORE bush was voted out.

A lot of good points, I like the fact that you did not bias towards one political party or the other. I believe that our corporations and special interest groups simply "buy" our politicians in Congress, in the whitehouse, etc. Until we remove private campaign financing, we've got a group of lawmakers working for the corporations, not the people. There are a number of bills out there, one in particular is the "Fair Elections Now Act." It's not perfect but it is certainly much better and would create meaningful campaign finance reform.
